Black Dog Brewery
Black Dog Brewery was launched in late November 2011. We are a craft brewery located at Taminick Cellars winery near Glenrowan in North East Victoria. Our beers are hand crafted from premium malted barley, hops and yeast strains with pure Warby Range water. Hand crafted, small batch brews made using traditional techniques and no preservatives, ensures each beer is of the highest quality, the way beers are meant to be. THE BREWER James Booth is the brewer for Black Dog and also the winemaker for Taminick Cellars. He is the fourth generation of Booth winemakers that have owned and operated Taminick Cellars since 1904. James has always had a strong interest in science especially chemistry and microbiology. He completed his wine science degree in 2008 through Charles Sturt University in Wagga Wagga, New South Wales. His interest in beer developed at 18 when he started brewing with beer kits. It didn’t take long before he began experimenting with recipes before moving on to using all raw ingredients of malted barley and hops. He completed his brewing certificate ran by the University of Ballarat in 2014. THE DOG BEHIND THE BRAND Macca, the Booth family winery dog, he had been part of the Booth family for over 125 years and in that time he has become a familiar face to people visiting the brewery/cellar door. Macca passed away in April 2015 a will be missed deeply by the Booth family but also by those that had the pleasure of meeting him at the brewery. Most of our branding depicts a particular pose that portrays Macca’s cheeky character, so his legacy will live on. BREWERY DOOR AND BAR We have four taps and a traditional English beer engine to pour our handcrafted beers, our brewery bar is open Saturday and Sunday from 12pm-5pm. We are also open Monday, Thursday and Friday 11am-5pm for package beer sales, we are a small team operating the brewery so time is of the essence to produce our handcrafted brews.
