We are Bad Shepherd Brewing Co, a microbrewery and BBQ smokehouse located in the bayside suburb of Cheltenham. We’re passionate about the simple things in life, like craft beer and comfort food. ABOUT Beer. The way it should be. Date night, cheekies at lunch, Sunday sesh, knock-off beers, birthday celebrations, chore procrastinations. We get it – there are plenty of reasons to enjoy a beer and we’re not here to judge. We’re here to make beer that is tasty, interesting and fulfilling. Whether at our brewery or through our bottles in people’s homes, we’re here to make things better. We’re here to make good, great. That’s the way beer should be. The brainchild of husband and wife team, Dereck and Diti Hales, Bad Shepherd is all about tempting you with fine craft beer and complementing that with a menu heaving with smoked meat delicacies and good ol’ fashioned comfort food. Let us lead you into temptation... We love what we do We make beer. We take all this ‘stuff’ and do all these ‘things’ and then some beer is born. That’s a lot of fun but it isn’t the best part. The best part is having people try it, enjoy it, discuss it, compare it, and then come back and do it all over again. We love that we’re creating memories for people and helping them explore the world of craft beer. Striving for excellence We like our beer cold, our food hot and our toilets to have toilet paper. Who wants to drink beer out of chipped or warm glasses? Who wants to stand at the bar or wait at their table wondering if they’re going to be served? Who wants to take a six pack home only to discover the beer is off? Not us and not our customers. If they’re not happy, we’re not happy. We care We care about our customers, our people and our community. We know that not all people are on the same beer journey that we are and we respect that, but for those who are, we want to offer something that stands for quality and showcases as many local suppliers as we can. Courage When it comes to beer, we’re treading our own path. We believe in what we’re doing and why we’re doing it – we believe in the beers we brew, the food we cook and the vibe we create and we’re not going to compromise on that, no matter what. Canadian Pig Candy (Pork Ribs) / 19 (gf) Apple wood smoked pork ribs, house-made maple BBQ glaze. Pulled Pork / 16 (gf) Cooked low and slow, smoked with apple wood. Texas Beef Brisket / 17 (gf) 10 hours smoked brisket, seasoned with our own spicy pepper Texas beef rub. Buffalo Wings / 14 (gf) 8pcs fried chicken wings in Frank’s hot sauce (spicy) with house-made Ranch style dipping sauce. BBQ Platter / 53 (perfect for two) Ribs, brisket, pulled pork, plus your choice of two sides: Jalapeno poppers; cabbage slaw; BBQ corn salsa; sweet potato mash; mac n’ cheese. BEERS Victoria Pale Ale: A crisp, easy-drinking session pale ale with tropical aromas. Grown here, made here. 100% Victorian hops, malt AND yeast. Reserve Road Draught: A very refreshing and approachable clean Czech Bohemian-style Pilsner. Hazelnut Brown: The World Wide Web claims Turkey exports the majority of the world's hazelnut. Well if that's true, we need a direct export agreement because this beer is chock full of hazelnutty richness. Toasty, malty and perfectly sweet, it's as smooth as a baby's backside. Hazy IPA: Apparently no one can explain the haze craze and we’re not about to try. All we know is that we’re crazy about THIS Hazy IPA, packed with JUICY and citrusy hop aromas and flavours of orange with a hint of passionfruit. Malt takes a backseat in this brew with its hazy golden appearance and smooth and creamy mouthfeel. Oatmeal Stout: Put away the breakfast smoothies. Want a meal in liquid form? Here it is. There’s no spinach, chia seeds or saliva of a pygmy hippopotamus, but you won’t care once you realise how well-toasted oats, roasted barley and chocolate malts combine to produce a lowly-carbonated dark beer with a tan head and a creamy mouth feel. Passionfruit Sour: We lovingly hand-poured 300kg of fresh passionfruit pulp into the fermenter to make this beer. The result is a highly quaffable kettle-soured ale with a mouth-puckering tartness and a juicy tropical passionfruit aroma.
